I always wanted to be someone memorable growing up. Memorable for my figure, memorable for my purpose, but, most importantly, memorable for my work. It was just a matter of figuring out what the "what" was going to be.
I was an artist and a business woman. Poetic and sound. I was my own boss; a curator. I wanted to call the shots while simultaneously creating the story. I was black. And I was genius.
When I was introduced to the opportunity to create something where I can illustratively tell the story of the Black Genius, I was motivated more than before. There are so many people in this work who long for that finding that fulfills them. The one talent they possess that they can use to achieve eternal happiness. The nine individuals apart of this editorial campaign had something exceptionally special that resonated with me as I organized the casting for this story. I was excited to celebrate their individual stories through dramatic contrasting and color pop effects.
The My Genius Campaign is an editorial story highlighting nine amazingly talented Black kids who I found admirable. This campaign is the official campaign of the Brooklyn based events curator, Black Genius. For the official campaign, you can find it here.
Photography was completed by Kimneak July. All editorial edits were completed by myself.
